I thought i'd post this up here, as i know you lot like a good project.
This lot is just copy and pasted from other topics so might not make sense, but i'll add updates as i go.
Last lot of updates was from yesterday.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Had a notion for a mk1 for a good while now.
Was trying to find a gti, but finding a half decent gti thats not a complete rot box for reasonable money seems impossible!
So i'm going to collect this next weekend, a lovely 1984 golf c 1.1 with 4 speed box! Shell overall is very solid, its been painted by the previous owner but it seems a good honest car. Interior is near mint and the engine runs sweet as a nut
Plans are...
Strip it down completely.
Repair the body ready for paint.
Paint it a pretty colour.
Fit some coilovers and nice wheels and admire.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all a big thanks to kirky for going with the transporter to clydebank with me to pick up the golf today, top job
Car's now home, well pleased with it!! Raised it up on the transporter and its solid looking underneath so thats a good start.
Mot's and tax discs back to 2002/2003, lots of receipts, and even an old style reg doc
Drivers side is pretty tidy except for the wing which is an original, so that'll be getting binned.
Under the spat is pretty tidy, but i'll be replacing both rear arches anyway as they're not perfect, especially the passenger side!
Told you
The engine bay, inner wings, chassis legs etc are all rock solid
Tidy parcel shelf i've heard these are hard to get.
Boot floor is solid too.
Door cards again are hard to find and these are perfect front and rear, as is the front and rear seats.
Door posts are solid too.
92k.
Overall i'm really pleased. I know it needs work but I bought it for a project. I'll need to replace the wings, rear arches, possibly front lower panel and rear lower panel. Other than that its pretty straightforward, i hope!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well finally cleared my feet of other jobs i had doing for other folks cars (well nearly!), was time to tear the golf to bits
Got a collection of some bits for it, absolutely mint passenger door, new rear arches (cheers kirky), new wings and a set of rare 80s msw wheels.
Davie came down and 4 hours later (mostly delayed by silly things), we ended up with this!
Nothing went to waste (this is not davie in case you're wondering)
To infinity, and the scrapyard probably
Halpo came over (once all the work was done), and decided to try and rebuild my arches piece by piece using fragments of 25 year old golf he found on the ground
Overall it wasnt too bad, just the rear arches which i knew about and some front and rear valance work, more so the rear
Until i took out the rear carpet, halpo's finger used for scale purposes
Some more holes
This was what was left after i went to remove the rear seat belt mount! Didnt unbolt it, it just fell off, halpo's hand used for scale purposes
Wee hole in the drivers sill, strangely halpo has this too on his, same with most of the car.
And in its new home where it'll live for a while to come.
Next plans are to weld up the floor top side, do the tappets on the engine, take it out, roll it on its side and begin the underside.

Well I'm planning on doing it right, taking my time and also doing it to a budget of sorts.
Yeah I'm doing everything myself. As for mag features, no idea, I'll see how it turns out!
I'm good though you? What u driving?
