....give this a go....
I've been a Sky customer for ages now...but haven’t had Sky+.
Just now...I’ve called them up saying I was going to cancel (which I wasn't) if I wasn’t' offered a decent price for a Sky+ box. After numerous attempts for them to get me to sign up to Sky+HD (to which I said "no" to each time), they offered me a Sky+HD box (because they don’t do the normal white ones any more) for £29!...which includes installation!
Granted, I had to be passed around 3 different people on the call...but I got what I wanted in the end.
I won’t actually have HD channels (which I could GAF about), but I can record...with 4x as much space according to them.

Hmmm, fair point, you'd think if you 'threaten to quit. that they'd offer you the same thing though.
otherwise, leave them and re-sign a week or two later

I got multi room HD for £49 installed at £33 a month. They installed on Sat gone. Brilliant is all i can say. Love it at the minute. My issue was always that i never had Sky in my bedroom / PC room.

I had sky+ HD fitted last week . Paid nothing for the box, paid nothing for installation and pay nothing for 9 months. Totally free.

Got the mrs to ring up & cancel, then i rang up & got Sky+ box, hd pack, 50quid tesco voucher, 2 months free.
IIRC they are doing a deal at the moment for new / existing customers where its free to upgrade.
I personally dont think the hd channels are worth the extra 10quid a month, and when we move i wont be getting them again. or the movies as they just re run the same shite all the time.

I don't want a free box
I want them to provide the service for free. Costs enough each month as it is, and freeview do it for free, so why should I pay Sky for it?
They send out the same signal anyway, it jsut the box that converts it, so im dammed if im paying extra for it.
Free sky HD = I'll sign up. Montly charge = SMB.

They will surely make HD the standard package eventually when more and more channels are in HD. And hopefully get rid of the cost?
When Sky+ first came out did you have to pay extra for it or not?

This is what im waiting for.
When I was first offered it there were 6 ot 8 channels. I was like £10 for those channels, half of which I don't get anyway (movies, Sky sports etc), whatever
When I was in the states there was about 20 HD channels. I asked a yank and that was just normal TV
