on a corsa B, have been thinking about it for my build but would like to now what gains i will get from doing it,

You can run proper coilover shocks.

Advantages, potentially more suspension travel, upright shocks (better damping because of improved shock movement to suspension movement ratio), more adjustment.
disadvantages, nothing.

of the coilovers you meen? that is true, might just do it then, they are only £38 from RD unless i get some 2mm plate and make my own

some rear platforms have a larger body shock which wont fit. Most normal road going stuff fits with some hammer adjustment to inner arch. Depends on the suspension you are going to use. More clearance for everything is always better though.
