A few weeks ago i went out to Kenya with uni to photograph for a project called Letters To Africa. Kids from the NW write to kids in Kenya about their lives and hopefully set up pen pals, the letters and loads of other stuff will all feature in a kids book by the same name and all the money from it goes back to the schools in Kenya.
The trip was imense, proper amazing stuff. Life in Kenya is so not what i expected, pretty much everyone that went said similar things. Compared to here sure they dont have much money or all the crap pointless material things we have like computers and TVs but their lives are rich is so many more ways. There is a massive community spirit, literally everyone knows everyone. Its a really laid back lifestyle as well, there only real worry is the weather and hoping the rains come, even then though there is a massive Christian presence so everyone has faith and attends church.
The only negative really was the woman who organised the whole thing, she is a lot of a knob. Very negative about everything and constantly feeding us bollocks information, after a few days we just started ignoring her. Due to her being an 'animal fan' (her words ) we didnt spend as much time as we should have with the kids and the Maasai, we went walking around the bush pretty much every day looking at bugs and plants. Yay fun.
Anyway we are also doing an exhibition at the Harris Museum in Preston which is really exciting along with the book launch the same night. Here is a very small selection of pics I took -
Our driver, Steveo. Very knowledgable chap.

They have just a few lions in the area and due to the recent droughts the area is still recovering so they keep the lions in a big penned off bit to encourage all the other animals back. When the numbers are up the lions will be let back out.

The marks on the kids cheeks are burns from a hot wire, the Maasia have it done when they are 3 as they believe it stops glaucoma.

The school kids were brilliant, I took a couple of pogo printers and gave some images out which they loved!
