What engine?
On the C20XE it's behind the inlet manifold, get underneath for access.
It will need to be torqued down correctly otherwise it may misread.

Its a x14xe, im guessing it will be in about the same place? Can it make the car mis fire and play up? I know his egr needs cleaning but the symptoms aren't pointing towards that!

It is probably the egr that is causing the faults to show up as knock sensor. Clean the egr, and clear the error codes, then test the ecu after you have run the car for a few miles. If the knock sensor fault is still showing, you should replace it. A report of misfiring in whatever cylinder can be due to faulty plugs, leads, distributor/coil pack. Dampness on leads distributor etc. can cause misfiring as well. Your knock sensor will be reporting misfiring to the ecu, in order that it can try to adjust the timing to suit.
