Can't get through to the DVLA at the moment, for some reason their phones are 'too busy' and then it hangs up.

Can I go to a DVLA office, and put my plate in retention immediately? I've heard rumours that you can do that...

They will usually do it over the counter if they are not snowed under.

Sweet, just had a guy phone me who is 'desperate to buy a car this week' which might go in my favour because I'm not desperate to sell. Would be nice to get the car sorted and sell it soonish though

Won't be instant as sometimes they check the vehicle. They take the logbook so you will need to wait for the new log book to come through confirming the new reg. Although it should go back on the old one

Last one i did was sorted within 5 working days though.

Totally depends on what they feel like, changes all the time.

Otherwise it's a week to get the tax disc/new keeper supplement then from 1-6 weeks to get the new v5.

Takes up to 4 week for the V5C to come back.. So you'd have to sell it without the V5.
