So I've a server sitting behind me that I wish to reinstall an OS on. Is it possible to do this without a CD drive at all? Its been suggested I ISO up my external HDD and boot from that, but will that mean I have to wipe it clean?

Any help appreciated <3

Molex

As said though, there are plenty of guides about copying Windows CD to a USB drive and install off that USB drive

Edit - Depending on the server, you could also isntall it via PXE (network install) - http://www.lockstockmods.net/2008/04/25/install-windows-over-network-with-pxe/

Windows XP will NEVER install properly from a USB stick...

You need to use an external CD drive

I've seen somewhere before that it misses some system files off or something due to the paths the are built into the code or some bollocks like that

I don't really care if it works or not in all honesty, I just use Win7 now
