Not sure what to do really, was 5 minutes from home sitting ast traffic lights,lights went green and i put my car into first, car started grumbling as if i was in 5th gear, tried to put it in first and the gearstick just swivels from side to side when in neutral, made it home in some sort of gear while the car was almost stalling, help is appreciated, just need suggestions

this sounds like my dads c and he needed a new gear linkage on his but i dont think pulling the gear leaver out helped him at all

If you look at these holes at the left hand side it looks like a clip should go in there? As my second picture shows that they line up perfectly

mine is exactly the same as that mate so i dont think that is your problem

the gear linkage is a common problem with c's though mate so it might be worth getting it checked out

It does look to me like theres a pin missing, there wouldnt be holes there for no reason surely?

The pin isnt in the second one, im holding that in place with my hand, but there is no pin there, i wouldve thought a pin went there

heres mine i dont think a pin goes there because the black plastic thing moves when you put it in reverse

The pin hole on the gear lever and to the left of it are fr aligning the gears when you disconnected the linkage from the lever.

Sounds like the linkage rubber has shat its nappy tbh.
Get someone to try selecting gears while watching the gearbox inpu and see if the selector rod for that is moving.

Its sorted, the linkage had popped off? wee pblack plastic bit, my brother spotted it and clipped it back on, why would this happen and how do I prevent it from doing it again? I need to the car til friday but now I know just to pop it back on if it happens to me, cheers

some sort of damaged bush? allowing the selector to move further that is should. and pulling things apart
