What would you choose??

Brand new 1 Series or an extra £6200 on your salary??

I'm told tax on car will be aprox £160 a month.

Need to make a decision but I'm so indecisive!

Tough one! If you are doing reasonable mileage could work well for you, no car costs if you got rid of your current car, apart from the £160 a month tax.

If you dont do many miles I'd take the money.

6200 is approximately 350 a month which would get you a reasonable car on finance.

If your on 41k, would an extra 6k take you into "super tax"? I'm not sure where that starts, but it's close to 40 I think.
If it takes you into the super tax bracket then the car might be a cheaper option?

*edit. I think super tax (40%) kicks in at 43k.
I can't be assed to work out figures for you, but I think the car would be a cheaper option.

Fuel is included mate.

I think I'll take it. Mrs is looking at a Megane R26 so that could be my weekend play thing.

Just did a little bit of researh as i was curious, 35o a month is about right on a 2 year lease on a 118d, however that woulndnt include your insurance petrol etc etc, its a no brainer really.

oh just to note in the lease deals i saw there wasnt much difference in price between 1 series and the 3 series so it may be something worth enquiring about

You're forgetting you'll have to factor in fuel, tax, insurance and servicing into the ~350 a month.

£6200 a year works out at £500+/month (unless you're taking tax into consideration)

If you're looking on a financial basis you'd have to work out all the tax etc on the extra money and take into account the extra £160 a mont tax if you take the car.

I'd take the car purely for the fact its less hassle when they arrange all the insurance etc

EDIT: If you take the car, how often do you get a new one? Taking the money and lease-hiring could be another option?

What do you mean?
At 47k you'll take home 28k and no car, at 41k you'll take home 27k and a car, all +\- a few ££ of course.

I took a company vehicle due to my mileage - easy 25k - 30k a year. Costs me around £150 in tax per month but i don't pay fuel or servicing etc. No point me spending money on a car to commute as it just gets ruined and i don't have time to look after them in terms of keeping it clean and tidy looking. I chuck things in the back and generally drive like a twat. Vans get replaced every 3 years, sorted.

Keep saying it, but i should now get rid of my own car, bank the money and spend my wages a women, drink and drugs Always worried about having no savings

Depends on yourself really. Would you prefer the cash or a nice beemer?

Where are you getting those figures from?

At the current tax rates, from 41k you'll take home 30k.

At 47k you'll take home 34k, minus 160 per month leaves 32k.

50% tax is only due to apply to those earning over 150k, and the current 41k already falls into the 40% bracket so no change next year.
