i was thinkin how cool it'd be to jump in the car, flick a switch, push a button and the car starts up.... so i buy some 27amp wire, heavyish duty flick switch which has two terminals and a heavyish duty push button with again two terminals on it. When i take off the steering wheel cowling i see four wires in the barrel, thick red, two thickish black and a small black/red.
its a '93 1.2 8v, no immobiliser transponder things round the barrel.. just wondering which wires to connect to what and really what does each wire on the barrel do??????
Thanks in advance for any help here!!

If you want it to be as easy as you say then think how easy it would be to steal your car. If youre really set on doing it then just use a start button dont use the switch aswel. You will still need the key as you need to turn it to ignition on before you can push the button. For the sake of doing it you could just turn the key that bit more and start it

This man speaks sense.
I have a nasty push start on my R5 - it is dogshit. Especially when driving and someone asks what it is as they push it! 'Yeah thanks dickhead, that's the sound of my high output starter getting fucked up at 110 MPH because you are a fucking MONG!'

well if i didnt use the swith too that would kinda defeat the objet of using a starter button set up in the first place.
disregarding the steerin lock.. an someone just help me out with how to wire this up with a switch and a button please

No point in it, you need the key in the barrel.

you should get a starter relay from a vx220, they disconnect the starter button when the engine is running.

You need to turn the key to position 2 before you press the button otherwise nothing will happen. For all the effort it's taken to turn it to position 2, you might as well push it that but further

That's not so say it won't happen tomorrow. Also, I'm not so sure your insurance company will be very pleased about you putting in a switch that means anyone can get in and just drive it off.

It's easier to take it out and throw it in the bin, it was fitted by a previous owner and I hate it.

You insurance would absolutely love you, if you remove the steering lock, and fit a button to just start the car No way would they cover you.
Just because it hasnt been broken into before doesnt mean it wont be.
You might want to look into some kind of transponder on your keys, so that the keys have to physically be inside the car, then you will be able to start it. Seems a bit point less on a 1993 car
