apparently my birds mum's cav's alarm keeps going off during the night. they've asked if i can fix it, or at least shut it off, and me being me replied with "of course i can!"
so, have they got a built in immobiliser? is their any common problems why they go off which i should check first? i know a fair bit bout electrics, so shouldnt be too hard, just thought a bit of input and advice wouldnt go a miss
cheers

What age and spec is the car mate?
Does it have a key with a chip in, i.e a little bubble not the normal vaux flat keys? If it does have a bubble its the chip for the immobiliser transponder pickup. The car will only start with this key if the immobiliser is active.
The immobiliser is built into the ECU, not sure if the module is removable.
If you tell me the engine code (on the block of the engine right hand side just right of no4 spark plug (distributor end)
I may be able to source u an ECU without the immobiliser present, swap em over and all's well.
