hi everyone, iv'e just bought a corsa SRI, its mint where the paintwork, bumpers etc is concerned but somethings wrong with my steering. there's a hell of alot of play in the steering wheel, and when i go between 55 and 70Mph the steering wheel really vibrates!!! i've had my wheels balanced and had the tracking done on it. any ides what it could be or does anyone have a similar problem???
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

other than that its mint, its red, 15's, lowered 60mm, Pipercross exhaust, tinted windows, K&N Air Filter, Quad Headlights, Clear Smoked rear lights. the list goes on, ive only had the car a month, totally skint for a while now though. gonna get it re-spayed next.

very true often overlooked, also try to find a place that does proper 4 wheel laser alignment and not some dodgy backstreet method of doing the tracking. I think when a garage does tracking its something like 90% profit margin and heard stories of garages not even carrying it out at all and the customer often doesnt even notice. with a 4 wheel laser alignment you get before and after printouts.

no it definatly aint right, i can only just about keep hold of the steering wheel when im driving!!! i've checked the tyre pressure! its just really annoying cos other than that it drives really nice! i was looking in the Haynes manual earlier, said something about universal joints on the steering column, maybe they need changing?

yeah i had the tracking done with the lasers on, the tracking was way out so i thought that would have been the problem but then took it for a test drive and it was even worse!!!!

my mate had a tottaly screwed join in the steering coloumn in his cozzie that the aa didnt spot on the test b4 he brought it and if it had snapped (a high possibility as the bit that was fooked had no failsafe and 3 of the 4 rivits that hold it togeter were broke, it was roatating on the remaining one) we were doing 145mph down the A130 a couple of days b4 my other mechanic mate found the problem, would have been a nasty mess, and i cud just see what the papers wud have said - young guys i a cozzie on the a130 = speeding loons, and whilst we were(n't) driving a trifle quick, we believed that the car was safe having just been 'inspected' to the tune of 200 quid by the freekin AA.

moral to this story, get it looked at, steering is important.

Any idea how much changing the joints would cost me? the garage i went to, to have the tracking done said that some of my wheels have been buckled. the 15's were already on the car when i bought it, im getting 17's soon anyway but dont wanna waste 700 quid if it makes the steering even worse!!!!!
