Dont think I posted this due to being banned but here you go,
Basically I found a local Royal Observer Corps nuclear bunker local to me that was unlocked! visited a couple in the area but they were locked, you can read all about them and find local ones here
http://www.subbrit.org.uk/rsg/roc/index2.shtml
A cross section of one and how they were meant to operate
This particular one i found was last manned in the 90's as you can tell by the scrawl on the wall and was in still decent condition, heres the pics from the little visit
The original local one we found which was locked
Can make out the air vent and access hatch from the surface here
Access hatch
Better pic you can see the nuclear fallout detector in the middle there
WW2/ Cold war aircraft post
Aircraft post
And again
Found another nearby one that was unlcoked but that was well hidden in the bushes, had to trek about to find it!
Access hatch
Blast lid off the top, was well heavy to shift
Looking down the access hatch
My cousin going down
Air vent near the top
Me at the bottom
The access ladder
General view of the living quarters below, the mushroom on the ceiling is the blast detector, there would normally be a bed and stuff in here.
Chemical toilet
Some general pics of what we found inside
Last manned in 91, to think the cold war and nuclear attack was still considered dangerous enough to man these until then
Some kind of timer, still worked!
Blast/radiation detector
And there we have it, it was actually pitch black down there, you can only see the pics because of the flash!

Surprised some hobo hasn't found his way in and started living there.
Must be fairly warm in winter that far underground.

this is an interesting one thats not far from me either basically the surrounding soil was very sandy when it was dug out and as such the soil has eroded away and left the concrete skeleton of the bunker

The one I went to look at a few years back was immaculate inside, still had the communication equipment inside.
