my car can get a bit awkward to select gears after the cars been driven for a while. it's fine when it's just started, but after 25mins or so it can be a real bitch.
it wont select gears nice and slickly like it should, and you have to use a bit of force on the stick to get it it. also when it's like this, it's impossible to engage reverse without grinding it quite harshly.
and yes i have got the clutch all the way down. i would of guessed the cluth needs adjusting, but it seems odd that it only does it after a time.
gratefull for any help.

How about adjusting the clutch cable a little bit see if this helps or move your seat closer a touch see if you can get more travel from the pedal Lee

when was the last time u changed ur clutch fluid?? i had the same prob in my previous car n was told by mech that the clutch n brake fluid should be changed every two years regardless of distance travelled. according to him the fluid absorbs water over time n loses its properties. Anyhoo i had it done n it solved the prob

Do u find it hard to get it into gear??
Mines currently like this. Causes are the bushes on the gear linkage (shaped bit of metal connecting the gear linkage accross the back of the engine). Small £1 part, nghtmare to do. Engines gotta be lowered a bit to get to it
Or it may not be that. Mine is though. Doh.

damn hope its not that.
its not that i'm not using all the travel cos i have the pedal in the carpet.
brake fluid was changed last month at its 20k mile service. dunno if they did the clutch fluid or not.
i may take it in to have it looked at.
cheers for the help.
and yeah it is a dietrich rs bumper. didn't fit it myself, but i think it needs a little trimming around the headlights, and cracks around the mount at the sides if you run into anything. (ii hit a badger)

the clutch pedal should be roughly in line with the brake pedal, if its lower as you said your not disengaging the clutch fully which means your not gonna get it into gear too easlily.

mine does this mate, just look in haynes manual on how to adjust clutch cable and it'll be ok.
Although I'm having to do mine every 6 months or so!!
Your clutch pedal should be inlign with your brake pedal.

reason for crunchen in reverse, this is what i heard is becouse vauxhalls haves a dog leg gearbox what ever that mean and that really u should depress the clutch twice before putting in reverse dont quote me on it its just what ive heard.

ok thanks guys. hope it just needs adjusting, so i'll try that.
as for your reverse problem, i think you have to have the clutch down for a whole second to get it in nicely. if you try and push it in straight away it'll grind.

just read down this post thinkin is anyone going to spot this????
the only fluid in that area is the gearbox oil. i have found that in the linkage there is a small plastic cap thet goes on to a ball joint and into a cup to connect part of it. it has a habit of crackin. talked to a few macanics i know and they agreed with me. went to vaux for a new one and they had never heard of the poblem and didn't know what part i was after. i had to get them to bring up the parts screen with the split diagram and point it out to them. they had one in stock thou, seems strange to keep a part in stock that doesn't have a habbit of breakin.

adjust the cable ...
when the clutch plate gets warm it expands and needs that little bit more to let the gear engage proparly ...as for reverse it has always been a bitch on vauxhalls

Cheers lads - my 01 corsa c has is down to 3 gears at the moment - first and second are available about once in every three attempts to engage them - was convinced that I'd need a new gearbox after 18k miles
...mebbe it might not be so bad after all !

all u need to do is take the little bung out the gearbox at the back of the bit that sits on top slacken the bolt under the car which connects the selector.move the selector on the gearbox untill u can get a 4.5mm drill bit into the hole(this locks it into place) then lift up the gear gaiter inside the car and use a screwdriver or similar to put in the holes to lock the gearstick in position then retighten the gearselector bolt, its a 5 min job and after its done it will be like driving a brand new car again
