I've just noticed i've balded the inside of my 2 front tyres. I currently have budget Faulken 452s - a hard wearing cheap tyre, which doesn't offer a massive amount of grip (on track it heats up and slides).

I'd love some R888's - but I had them on an old car and the every day road noise, wet weather performance and wear rate is not ideal for my everyday wheels.

So I'm looking for some road tyres to use, which offer good track day grip. Now before anyone says it, NO to good year eagle F1s. They're great on road, but whenever I've used them on track, their soft tyre walls let them down.

I keep reading about these Hankook RS2 tyres, designed to be a track day tyre for the street (apparently).

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m12b262s667p0

The RS3's look even better, but camskill don't have them yet.

So does anyone actually have any experience with these, on track or road? What are they like?

Prada spec2 is an awful tyre.

Too soft, and only grips in a straight line.

The Hankook rs2 is a decent tyre for the price, I have hankooks on my car at the moment and I'm very happy.

A lot of my friends use Hankooks and swear by them, (corsa 2.0 corsa 2.0t ibiza cupra, etc)

I rate my Paradas highly I thought they coped well on track considering I'm trying to put 260bhp through the front wheels.

Parada's are ok in the dry, as soon as the road becomes damp they're shocking though

I had parada spec 2's but only ever tried them in anger in the wet... and was disappointed. It's kinda put me off them for life.

I'm tempted with these Hankook rs2's - but I've never really heard of 'hankooks' and they may be shit.

I've seen quite a few people in the USA using them on track days ... it's not as grippy as a r888 - but above most road tyres I'm hearing?

I found a thread which was recomending these two too.

Oh no doubt about that, I 100% agree But I don't drive fast in the wet so it makes me slow down anyway.

Paul you shouldn't let that shield your judgement on the tyres though.

The problem I find with tyres, is often people haven't got a clue e.g. they've always used shit tyres and they try a slightly better one and think it's the best thing ever.

Or people don't actually drive fast / on track and recommend some crap tyre

I think I'll try these, will keep driving it bald for a while I think

Customer feedback and personal experience is where my advice comes from.

Sell 100's of Hankook's every week, probably our biggest seller.

I agree with Nic. I have had T1-R's on my MPS and my Fiesta. I thought they were shocking on the Fiesta but they weren't too bad on the MPS.

can anyone explain how much tyres being stretched matters etc

Like, I've got some 225/45 on the front of my car at the moment and they look really big and bulgy on the tyre walls compared to my 245/40 on the rear (which are still quite bulgy)

I was thinking of going 215/40 on the front and 235/40 on the rear

17s btw... should be ok right? not too much different.

you would hardly notice 10mm width difference. its when you put say 165s on instead of 205s that it becomes silly and massively affects th way the car drives.

i run RS2 on my DC2 and they are amazing, had falken tires before changing an i was shocked at the difference. i did a track day at castle combe and they performed great and are still going now. i have had them for over a year now and they still have some life left. got a spare set sat in the garage ready to fit as they are quite hard to get in my size. ITR-DC2 highly rate them. or you could get a set of yoko AD04 but very pricey.

Cheers MJ

Have a read of this month's evo mag. They have a tyre test on an mx5 with 17's. May give you a few more ideas.

Ive had Kumho KU31s, brill on the road but never tried them on track. R888s are really expensive now, I think Kuhmo do a road leagal track type tyre now, might be worth a look?

I've found Bridgestone potenza RE050's to be good on the datsun.

Not had it out on track yet though.
