I cant really get my head around what just happened - im half expecting a tv crew to pop out somewhere
ME: "Hello sir - how can I help?"
CUSTOMER: "i want to buy a washing machine"
ME: "Ok, we can provide new appliances and we offer free delivery, fitting and removal of your old appliance. I really need to know a little more of what you are using the machine for so I can suggest an appliance to suit your needs?"
CUSTOMER: "just the best one please"
ME: "Well in my opinion and that of most consumer serveys that would be a Miele washing machine- starting price is around £600"
CUSTOMER: "Thats a rediculous price, im not paying that, I can get a machine for a fraction of the price of that, how can you justify that price?"
ME: "I wasnt suggesting you needed a Miele, you asked for waht in my opinion was the best machine - that price is cheaper than internet prices on that model. We do of course sell less expensive machines - how much are you looking to spend?"
CUSTOMER: "anything up to about £100"
ME: "there is no machine on the market for under £100"
CUSTOMER: "oh forget it, I will go and buy one from someone who isnt trying to ripp me off"
ME: "I would like it if you left the shop before I lose my temper sir"
CUSTOMER: "so you are not going to accept my custom then"
ME: "I think the conversation is over, you said you were going else where because i was ripping you off?"
CUSTOMER: "I said no such thing you damned liar"
ME: "get the fuck out of this shop now please"
CUSTOMER: "dont worry im going - I will go to budgens and buy one - they value their customers"
ME: "budgens dont sell washing machines"
CUSTOMER: (and he shouted this with his back to me as he was running out of the shop) "thats what you think!!!"
ME: ........completely lost for words

Doesn't seem like good customer service on your part 'get the fuck out of this shop now please'
You should have just told him to go on eBay or something.

Yeah pretty much an over reaction. Could have told him the lowest priced machine you have, or told him to try ebay/second hand stores for that price.
Wouldn't have sworn or asked him to leave, blown any chance of him coming back to actually spend his money. Plus he'll only ever bad mouth you in the future.
Personally, If I was treated like that in a shop, i'd have kicked off back at you.

? Have you read what happened ..... im perfectly polite untill he accues me first of ripping him off, then of lying to him, I would have suggested a cheaper model had he not suddenly gone beserk on me ..... He wasnt ever going to buy anything - just some nutcase looking for an argument.
I really couldnt care less if he bad mouths us or doesnt shop here - the company has been established here for 80 years and we work with most of the hospitals and letting agents landlords in the area - one knob jockey accusing me of all sorts is not worth being polite for. I dont put up with that shit form customers, I asked him to leave politely and he still carried on.

He wasn't looking for an argument- he was looking for a washing machine, which is why he came into your shop...

It's not hard to say "No sir, these are not rip off prices, we are competative on our prices" Our lowest priced machine is £xxx, all our prices are set, if you want one for that much, can i take your number and i'll give you a ring when one comes in"
Shouldn't lose your rag, even if he is a nutcase.

yeah and I would have tried to sell him one till he accused me of ripping him off, as a result of me quoting him a good price for what he originally asked for.
The conversation is dead form there and its better to walk away than to get involved in a slanging match

After he said he wanted to spend only £100 you should have suggested the cheapest one you do be it £150 or £500 and told him how amazing it was and how wonderfully reliable it is as those cheap ones dont last 5 mins etc etc.
You dont ever tell the customer there wrong and you certainly dont tell them to leave the shop for something as lame as that in my opinion. I know he was a bit of a nut case later on but you lost him at your reply to £100.

Thats exactly what I did say? told him that was a competitive price for a miele but that we do of course sell cheaper machines .... he then called me a liar and denied he had just accused me of ripping him off?

No - I lost him when he reacted by saying I was ripping people off - I never got a chance to say anything else to him ..... we dont sell any machines for less than £300 because there are non on the market that we belive in as a company ..... I would of explained that if he hadnt of started accusing me of all sorts
