I have saved up a bit of cash and wanted something economical and powerfull, so been looking into these tdi 150 engines and they seem pretty good. Spoken to a few mechanics and they say they are very good and the main thing to look out for is the dual mass flywheel? £500 a pop. Ive heard they are very tunable but become quite smokey.
Has anyone on here got one or has had one?
Looking for one with low mileage which is proving difficult as i want a black three door to be specific
Any info/opinions welcome

dont discount the 130, only 10bhp between them in reality (they all make way more) and will make your serch easier

No smoke no poke!

It could be economical, but will be more expensive to buy than an equivalent petrol model.

Ah i was under the impression its 20bhp and a 1s quicker on 0-60 between the 130 and 150 after reading about the stats. Ive heard they are actually quicker than what the book figure say. Your correct in the 130's being easier to find

Yes but i do quite alot of miles so id make my money back in the economy and also the second factor would be that the tdi's are miles quicker than the 2l gti's.

1.9Tdi 150bhp 236lbs 0-6 8.6s with 52 av mpg
or
2l Gti 115bhp 127lbs 0-60 10.5 with 34 av mpg

I might be wrong here, but I thought the 115bhp GTi was the 2.0 8v but they did a 16v as well?

dual mass wheels are only a problem when u start running bigger power. can easily be converted to single mass though using vr6 parts. think euro even do a kit. dont let this put u off such a good car.

The 130 is the one to get if your going to mod it. The 150 has a chocolate cam and also have had some head issues. Only main difference is the turbo and the Golf GTTDi get a FMIC too

Wrong, DMF can go at any time depending on how its been driven, mine is on its way out on a 80K old car! There is a lad with a 230bhp Ibiza TDi with a DMF and its fine! And I wouldn't convert to single mass anyway, only good if you are going hybrid/more, but even then they need replacing every 10-12k, along with the clutch.

dont rule out the 130, they still make good power and the only difference is the blower. they rekon you should stay away from 01-02 150's due to cam problems, but thats just what you read on the net

you wont be dissapointed with a 130
