Its bollocks, I get loads too, emailed back and told them to go away (but in the most abusive way I could), not because I knew anyone would read it, but for satisfaction.

That's the thing with fakes, they can look legit. Phone them up and ask about it.

Ask yourself, do they have your email address? Why and how did they get it, and why email you and not send a letter or phone you. Anything by email should be treat as dodgy, spart from if a guy in africa wants to give you £10m for no apparent reason.

Best thing is to ring them to confirm everything.
They have sent emails to our clients recently and we've phoned to verify it and they have been legitimate so don't always assume it's fake.
