Hi, I've got about 5 websites at the moment all on individual web hosting packages. Nice and simple to manage which is fine.
I'm planning on increasing my holding of websites to 20 to 50 in the next few months so I assumed a dedicated virtual server would be better?
I'm not very clued up or technical in terms of the technical side of hosting etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for what I need? Are they user friendly - I like the ease of ftp access I have at the moment.
Thanks!

Depends on the traffic and bandwidth mate.
Look in that other php mysql hosting thread - that dreamhost i mention would allow 50 sites to be hosted on one domain.
You need virtual private servers when the bandwidth and data usage is high. Other reasons for needing a proper virtual private server is if for instance you are using technologies which require more server architecture to run e.g. ASP.NET / .NET framework 4 / Microsoft SQL server.
At the end of the day, unless you're paying mega bucks you're still going to be sharing a phyiscal server with thousands of other sites.
