I'm sure I remember someone on here saying once that the C16XE was de-tuned because Lotus worked on it and it made the Corsa faster than the Astra 1.8 or something so with the right mods you can easily get loads out of it.

So would it be easier to change my 1.4 sport to an x16 rather than the c16? could i use the same loom and just swap ecu's over?

No, the EGR valve. EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Its something like that, the C16XE would have been faster than some bigger engine if it wasn't restricted, I cant remember what but the C16XE was apparently 140 BHP un-restricted.
May have been due to emissions as well, cant remember now.

yer the c16 was tuned by lotus was 140 odd bhp and restricked it becuse they didnt want the c16 to be faster than the c20xe astra one thing they did to restrict it was change the inlet manifold, hence when you put a manzel or box inlet on free quiet abit of power. think it was on a inlet simlar to the nova gsi when first desined was probz to do with emmisions also that they didnt keep it that way..

So what would you need to do to get it to the 140bhp that they had?

They managed 148bhp thats why the restricted it. Tbh though theres the usual inlet etc to change, bt noone actualy knows what they did, i even emailed lotus to see what they done but recievd nothing back.

Bit of a long shot but would lotus not build one of these engines for a client so to speak.

Different profile cams and map probably to go with the different inlet.

Yes you could Rob, but remember to get the transponder and the chip from inside the key from the donor car

Also, the X16XEL head goes best with the C16XE block (Yes that's X16XEL not X16XE)
quote:
We recommend the either the head from the early GSI (see picture right), this has the larger oval port size with a slight raised arch in the middle or the later triangular ported head (see pictures above). The 1600cc cylinder heads with the triangular ports are found on the X16XEL engine from the Astra/Zafira from 1998 to now. In tests we've found this to be as good if not slightly better, any other heads are not as good even after being ported due internal shape.

if your doing a swap from an x14xe the easiest option would be to use the x16xe, itll run on the 1.4 ecu too if needed
