any idea how to find the hd channels and is there codes you can get for the scrambled channels like espn
any help appreciated

Definitely can't get HD, and won't be able to until they release a whole new box.
No idea on codes, never tried.

the update said high definition watch pause play rewind on it though and i checked on the freeview website if my area can get hd and it can. thanks for the replys

Definately not HD. Only in Australia where they use a different transmission signal.
Won't work in the UK due to the different types of signal used over here.

Indeed. Not sure if its Sonys fault for developing a limited system, or the UK for choosing an unusual standard.
Either way means you need to buy a new box (when/if its released) to get freeview HD

Its the UK, or more specifically OFCOM's fault for choosing DVB-2 for HD broadcasts. It requires all new hardware, which is why the PlayTV says it can do HD.
It can, in mainland europe, where they use the same standard for HD/SD as we currently use for SD braodcasts so TVs etc there just need a firmware update.

the upscaled sd is good enough for what it is but not so good about espn that you cant get it
