Incase anyone is interested, I've just watched a feature on The Gadget Show reviewing 3 phones:
HTC Desire
Motorola Milestone - Best camera
Samsung Galaxy - Bad camera
HTC Desire came out on top and they said it was the next best thing to an iPhone, but had better hardware.

In the review on monday's show that compared the iPhone 4 to the Desire, the iPhone came out on top. They also compared it to some phone with an 8mp camera(iPhones is 5mp) and the iPhone was better on both picture and video quality.

They didn't say, but I'm guessing they prefer the iPhone's lay out etc.

iPhone wasn't compared in this feature. They just said they preferred the Desire's hardware.
I must add this was on Dave, so was probably the 3GS they were comparing to.

Picture quality is generally defined by the lens not the amount of megapixels
