The engineering place have taken the box apart and looked at the damage and it's worse than first thought. They thought it would just be replacing the bearings but the centre shaft is fucked as well.
Total cost to fix is £1170 all in and that was the cheapest place I could find

Taking the box off is a big job afaik. The subframe and everything else needs to come off.
That's £2800 been spent on new parts since the 25th of may.
It's not eating that much into the fund but there is no chance in hell I'll be selling the car for a penny less than the asking price now lol.

No point mate. It's out of warranty and been modded so they won't even touch it. There was another astra getting the box fixed in when I was there with the same problem as mine with only 29k miles on the clock. It was the diesel version tho.

For us, they wanted £500 just to split the box open to investigate. Then, IF it could be done under an investigation from Vauxhall, they may have repaired it, or offered part cost repair.
Or, if they didn't do that, we'd have had to pay a further £2200 for the replacement parts and labour. But they wanted £500 to get to this stage, which would leave us with a £500 bill, a split open gearbox, that still wasn't repaired.
Hence why we never bothered with Vauxhall.
Shame your so far away, WarrenG offered me a much better quote. Depends if you know any vauxhall home repair nuts?
