OK, so I bought a bass guitar off eBay, arrived damaged, seller agreed to do a refund if I sell it back etc

How do I go about doing this to ensure I don't end up with no bass and no money ?

Do it through the official channel, either ebay or paypal. File a proper complaint and follow what they tell you to do.

Will he not pay till he recieved the bass?

If you paid by paypal i think the seller can just do a refund.

No, not at all. He'll even get his fees refunded this way. No strikes or anything daft, it's an accident.

On ebay, click the drop down next to the item and it's something like "report problem with an item", then follow the steps. Won't do any harm messaging the seller letting him know you just want to do it the official way so you're both secure.

My dad just had something similar, had an item arrive damaged, refused it from the couriers, so brought up a paypal dispute. Paypal wanted documents to show that the item had been returned, but there was no-where at all to submit the evidence

Ended up the claim was denied, with no way to appeal. Paypal are useless.

As long as you send it recorded to the senders registered paypal address then there;s no problem. It has a box to type in the recorded delivery number. Once they see it has arrived then you get refunded.

I couldn't find anything to give the addition details, the button was missing. Same for the appeal, you can appeal the decision up to 10 days afterwards, but the appeal button isn't there either

Is it a private seller, or a business?

Im 99% certain, by law a business has to refund before you return the item.
