Well got roped into this Sinclair C5but its actually amazing fun; used it to get to the Pub and back last night

Plans are for a 2kw brushless motor, replace the missing side graphic and a new battery; bought as a none runner because it ahd flat tyres and wouldn't start. Ripped off the inline switch someone had bodged on, pumped up the tyres, fitted a temporary battery and it fired up!!!

£195 off Ebay and the guy was in our local town so we picked it up 45mins after the auction ended

Everyone wanted a go at the Pub last night including most of the women, who seemed to love it

its worth that now it runs and has air in the tyres. Its been in the guy's shed for 7 years untouched. Gave it a bit of a clean, hooked a temporary car battery up; ripped out the switch someone had bodged in, pumped up the tyres and it was good to go - even has a boot for beer carriage

well they're classed as a bicycles so:
quote:
Section 30 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, as amended by the Road Traffic Act 1991, provides the offence of cycling on a road or public place whilst under the influence of drink or drugs. It states:
30(1) A person who, when riding a cycle on a road or other public place, is unfit to ride through drink or drugs (that is to say, is under the influence of drink or a drug to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the cycle) is guilty of an offence.

NOTES

(i) The evidence of the extent to which a person is affected must be measured by means other than the provision of a specimen of breath, blood or urine, as there is no power to require such a specimen in these circumstances. However, if such a specimen was offered, it is probable that the evidence obtained by analysis of the specimen would be admissible.
(ii) In Scotland a constable may arrest without warrant a person committing an offence.
(iii) In England and Wales a constable may only arrest without warrant in accordance with the powers of arrest set out in section 24 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. In such an instance, that power might be exercised where a satisfactory address has not been furnished, or the constable has reasonable grounds for believing that arrest is necessary to prevent such a person causing physical injury to himself or any other person (see also other conditions in s24 of PACE).
(iv) The absence of a specific power of arrest in England and Wales affects the ability of the police to present any form of medical evidence of the accused's condition.
(v) There is no offence of 'being in charge' of a cycle under the Road Traffic Acts, but such conduct may well be an offence of drunk in charge of a carriage under section 12 of the Licensing Act 1872. A bicycle or tricycle is a carriage for the purpose of that section.

So they can't breathalyse you or take a specimen for analysing; they can only test to see if you are drunk by other means - the reality is you;d get a ticking off or at best, get into a banter with a copper and let them have a go

two's up is difficult in one because of how light they are and where the steering is so we'll probably try and buy another!!!

Few Facts:

The chassis was designed by Lotus
The body was manufactured by Hoover
It was the largest injection moulded product at the time by a far way
It was the first mass prodced item to use ultrasonic bonding to bond the upper moulding to the lower
12,000 have been sold and the production costs of each one was £22,000 but they sold for £400 origninally

Actually, just noticed in the top pic, you can just make out Paul's MEV Rocket kit car build; just the far side of the Microlight he's also building. You can see the throttle body trumpets and the top of the roll cage if you look carefully - I'll get photos of that next week.

Bought into a Reliant Kitten last night; its essentially a 4 wheel version of the Robin but ours is fitted with a 1998 Yamaha R1 engine (on Carbs); Fully stripped and galvanised chassis, polycarb windows to go in; we've got two carbon bucket seats, digi dash and an all up weight of 410kg!!

Only things to buy to finish are harnesses and fabricate a roll cage. We have everything else we need so just need to spend some time on the body to clean it up.

Got it Very, Very cheap because the guy gave up on it after he couldn't get it running. Paul did a lto of work on the car for the previous owner including custom hubs to convert to disc brakes, full coilover covnersion from leaf springs on the rear. Paul managed to get it going in about 1 hour!

Not a photo of the actual one; ours is in bits but we have everything needed and just need time spent on it now.

I'll get actual photos over the w/e

ours looks a lot different already though; side exit bike exhaust; 13" minilites instead of the 10" standard wheels - it really is awesome and then when it fires up, it sounds amazing!
