well i was just watching the episode on itv player, find it rather amusing to sit there and listen to some of the crazy public embarris themselves, however i dunno if its just me but some contestants sounded like they had been auto tuned, is it just me? I had great fun using it in college but surely it defeats the object of the show, and most of the time they sounded like it made them worse? anyone watch it, or is it just me?

i usually watch it in the early stages for the lolz but can't stand the way they do the serious bits inbetween. they break off from comedy and show you a sob story from an immegrant who moved over here 3 years ago with her 3 kids and grandmother who is ill. she has 2 jobs and still finds the time to care for everyone except herself. she turns out to be a quality singer and makes everyone cry. then she hugs all her family back stage while leann rimes - how do i live without you plays in the background.

apparently its not used in the live auditions, only put on in pre-production.
so they are still judged on their propper voices..
well thats what tony cowell said on real radio this morning

this is true, but what happens when they get to the live shows and sound like shit, you think ''hold on a minute, whats going on here? you sound like chaz and dave ffs''.

I have a hard time believing that some of these retards actually think they're good singers etc?
They must be egged on by ITV or something surely?
The gay and the heffer (G&S ?) were shown singing in their flat, so surely they've been chased up first?

How's that?
Real-time pitch correct is possible using something like the Antares ATR-1(a) or anything by TC Helicon (have seen the ATR-1 used a few times in gigs), so it's easily believable that pitch correction is used during the auditions as well.
What i don't understand is why it's used at all? It certainly isn't necessary because of "the number of microphones used during filming" as there is only a handheld mic (or mics if there are a few of them 'singing') for source

Yeah, was about to say...... You can use Auto Tune type software/hardware live.
LOTS of acts do it.

my god, you really put your mind to good use, yes you got me shirlock, sorry i don't watch the news much. no but seriously you caught me out if you must know i do have a shit hot ear for music, seeing as ive taken all my drum grades, guitar and two year diploma in sound engineering and music tech, with a bit of knowledge it wouldnt take a genius to know it was auto tuned.

So for 3-4 hours that the auditions are on, the engineer has to set up the auto tune for each person that gets on the stage without doing a sound check for each one?
I know its used live with bands, but thats because it is set up for the person using it
