Hi just need abit of info on towing a car.

Ive recently bought an astra coupe with a blown engine which doesn't have tax or mot and need to get it home. The car is 200 miles away and i just need to know if it is ok to tow the car if its not taxed or mot'd, we are going to use a tow bar to do.

any help would be appreciated, cheers joe

Needs to be off the ground.

You can tow it with two wheels off the ground for recovery purposes but you would need to justify if stopped, that you are in a recovery situation. I don't think you are.

You might get away with it if it was a cheeky mile or two round the corner but 200 miles

Join the AA and say its just blown up?

It doesn't have to be completely off the ground but at least one 'axle' does. Suspended tow is fine, A-frame is not.

Incidentally the AA will check it's taxed before they recover it and if it looks sort of abandoned or is obvious it's not been on the road in ages they will refuse to shift it.

200 miles, legal or not, with a tow bar I wouldn't fancy it.
