What methods do people use? Mines not the cleanest really and wouldn't mind sorting it out while i have free time.
I've been told steam cleaning and pressure washing are risky because of all the electrics. 
So what do you people do? And if you want, post pictures of your engine bay to show your hard work!

i use a product called muc-off its actualy a cleaning product for bikes but it works really well. you just spray it on and wipe with a cloth. can get it in halfrauds.

Cheers lads, i'll have to get searching for the stuff then, either of you tried steam cleaning or pressure washing?

no never done it but you can do it just be carefull where you blast it. try not to blast it into airbox or fuse boxs

yeah, think i'll try using some degreaser and a bit of hard work and swearing before i resort to pressure washing anywhere, thanks!

i used some mer quick detailer stuff and a hose 
i just left the engine running (i think flybikeslee told me to do this ages ago).
didn't bag anything up and no problems.

pressure washed the engine bays in all my cars and its never been a problem, just keep your distance from the alternater and fusebox and you should be fine

I done mine at the weekend with a new product aimed for motorbikes again but very impressed and so so so easy to use!

G101 and a pressure washer is fine. Like said dont blast straight onto fuse boxes etc and its fine.

Cheers everyone, im off to buy some stuff today and i'll give it a go later on, cleaning the whole car at the same time, i'll get some pictures up to show the results!

i like that tardis stuff for cleaning engines, really cuts through the grease, just smells a bit lethal

tardis or g101 i used intensive tar and glue yesterday and it worked a treat finished off with some ag tyre dressing to give it some shine

my mate used a pressure washer, just put plastic bags with tie wraps on the bits you dont wanna get wet. worked a treat.

I dont know what you're all worried about ive had my engine submerged in muddy water nearly up to inlet height (airfilter was soaked) just needed a bump start and mud washing out of the alternator.
