Mine is fitted in the kickpanel (where the ecu is on your car mine was originally a 1.0 so ecu was on engine)
The kickpanel does fit back over but its a squeeze. I removed the sound deadening material and broke off the metal lugs on the ecu and it fits in there fine and you can fit the kickpanel back over it.

As said, you can get them behind the kick-panel. Mine just about fitted...

Or, you can tuck it under the steering column/fuse box if it just wont go...

take the cover off and pull the foam from underneath it out, cust the old mounting points off the ecu and it will fit in no problem

Yea it's a squeeze but kick pannel is by far the best. Wouldn't trust it by the fuse box tbh. Too much delicate things to knock/snag

Made a bracket to mount mine to the steering column, power steering control unit was behind the kick panel on mine so it was a pain in the hoop!
