My girlfriend is just away to start uni and move into halls.
Theres no wireless in the halls it's just connection via Ethernet cable (sp).
So basically i was wondering, those internet dongle USB things you get to plug into laptops, will one of those work connected with the USB cable into her Ipod Touch? Reason is as said no wireless and she wants to use it in the likes of the common room and lying on her bed rather than having to sit at her desk all the time?

WHAT?! a usb into an ipod touch?!
Create an AP using the laptop to share to internet connection is the easiest way. Unless your taking about the 3 option, wireless ap.

No, definately not. You need a computer to run the connection software.
Best bet is to get a MiFi from Three - sets up a wireless access point which iPods/laptops can access and doesn't need a proper computer to use. Just has a cowpoke of buttons on the side to connect/disconnect the 3G and wireless network.

It's unlikely that the internet in halls will work if you plug a wireless hub/switch into them. They tend to work on the same principle as wireless hotspots like BT Openzone.

Cheaper in a Three store. Paid £50 for mine.
