I know everyone on Corsasport operates within the law, doesnt break the law and obeys everything the government says we should.
But....
A friend of mine has been sent a letter from a solicitors with a legal bill for £370 for illegally downloading ONE album from PirateBay in December 2009 (a Ministry Of Sound album for those who would like to know). If he doesnt pay, he will receive a court summons and further action will be taken.
Now I wasnt sure if this was a scam but apparently it's not.
I just thought you should warn any 'mates' that may download the odd album here and there, which they shouldnt by the way, as its illegal

Apparently they can track back and charge you per album, luckily my mate only downloaded 1 album but was still hit with £370 fine.

What if several people use one pc?
I think i'd rather get a new pc and ask them to prove I downloaded something... (not that I have done)

I have no answer to that, I said to him he just say his neighbours must have stolen his internet and say it was unsecured.

Apparently it very rarely goes to Court because they have to actually seize your laptop/pc and have physical proof you downloaded it.

Its like shoplifting, you get fined more than the product because you have commited a crime and it serves as punishment.

no way they can prove it was him. Some one else could have connected to his wireless router especially if it is not protected

who are the solicitors, Gallant Macmillan, ACS Law?
Eitherway, have a look at http://beingthreatened.yolasite.com, chance are they are just bluffing but that site has loads of info regarding what to do. Although i would recommend that he install something like peerblock, it won't stop him getting caught but it helps block a lot of 'known' IP addresses.
