I bought myself a Canon EOS 450D a while ago and pretty much every weekend I go out, it comes with me.
Six weeks ago I bought a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L series lens which cost me £1200. I got it insured the same day. Later that night, I went out with my camera & new lens and ended up getting so drunk that I blacked out on the walk home. I left my camera & lens in the middle of the street and got woken up by the police in some random persons garden about half a mile away.
Thankfully someone found my camera and handed it into the police station that morning so I got it back.
Last friday, a similar thing happened, apart from this time I had my camera, lens and laptop in my bag (so over £2k's worth of stuff) and once again, some good citizen found it and held onto it for me and I got it back tonight. I'm so happy, so lucky, and soooooo going down to that womans house with a big bunch of flowers and a bottle of wine!
Think I'm gonna behave myself next time I have my equipment out with me, either that or leave it at home!
So glad there are still some good people in the world

Thanks for the input, but i'm a believer in karma and I do a lot of good, i'm an honest person, and always help someone out when I can.
If i deserved to lose it, I would have lost it.

I can be, but I drink that much that my mind shuts down before my body does. Kinda unfortunate.

well if in future you go out without it, get wasted and fall asleep the chances of some scrote finding it and knowing what its worth are lessened ten fold.

Suppose we all make mistakes, luck isn't a valid reason though, it's just kind hearted people.

I once found some credit cards on the street in Birmingham city centre, I handed them in to the police and didn't even get a thank you.
Should have gone on a spending spree with them!

If you can't control your drink then don't do it. Or at least don't take thousands of pounds of kit out with you.

We found a set of keys at work yesterday. Didn't know those they were, but they had a Tesco club card fob thing on. Called Tesco they got in touch with the card owner, phoned her and told her to go to our work to collect them. We got £50 in the post coming from Tesco (prolly vouchers though :lol
