I heard the expression the other day "vauxhall do sell good cars, they just don't make them"

so been looking at the lotus factory etc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpY7t2SV2GE

i always knew the VX220 was made by Lotus and it seems its pretty much a lotus.

Also saw this comment

"The Elise S2 was designed by Lotus to have 16" front wheels and 17" rear wheels. Opel/Vauxhall decided to fit 17" wheels front and rear to the VX220/Speedster for aesthetic reasons, which reduced the handling performance of the car"

Do vauxhall have a say on the Elise then?

not as standard!

maybe teh vxr model which they only made a limed few!

but part from that no other turbo or na models came with 16s on the front!

people just fit them after to improve the handling!

yes same chassis, only things that rust are, lower arms and the bolts that hold the body on, thats about it.
i think the vx220 is a better looking elise, obviously not as nice as an exige though

the S1 elise had its own chassis, the S2 elise and some exiges share the same chassis as the vx220.

I've been round the lotus factory, its quite weird as everything starts on one production line and then after a certain point they hit a fork - 1 to the vauxhall side 1 to lotus

Thought the only thing vauxhall had a say in was the engine - 2.2 and 2.0 turbo

Would rather have the elise personally.

Oh and have a look at this and my earlier comment will make a bit more sense.

i work on these 2 alot as we specialise in them and tvrs , they are simular but the S2 elise is my favourite

i have come to dislike the vx,s tbh they are more of a cunt to work on

we do a conversion to and audi 1.8 turbo lump plus a bit of work they come out at 360ish bhp and are rapid as fuck

the vx was only made becuase lotus owed vauxhaul some money iirc, elises use corsa indicator stalck, side repeters and vaux hubs

Guglielmi?

First time i've heard of Lotus using five stud hubs on an Elise if im honest.

Oh and GM partnered Lotus to get them out of the shit with the S1 failing crash tests, without the vx it's widely thought the S2 wouldn't be here. Certainly not in the form it came out in, and you can very much thank vaux QA for getting the S2 build quility up to scratch

PS: Don't believe everything Thorney says, it's mostly sales talk. If you work for Steve Guglielmi ask him how Thorneys stint in the original Elise series went

they use the 4stud hubs from astras ect iirc

that sounds about right,

well steve guglielmi races his elise in time attack, not sure if he ever did the elise series but we get a few cars in that do race there
