Im doing my fucking head in.

Somehow ive managed to get the stupid virus "Security Tool". One of them pop up "your infected" kinda things. Nothing im trying is getting rid of it.

So far ive tried
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-security-tool
and another online guide i found.

Every time i try to open a program i.e. Chrome or I.e. or even task manager, it says it is infeceted and refuses to let me open it. This all started this morning.

Any more ideas

I had one like this and a system restore to an earlier date worked. If not, safe mode and give Avast and Malwarebytes a whirl.

Ive just downloaded Avast. Booting into safe mode as we speak.

If this doesnt work, i'll do a sys restore. What will this remove? No programes or docs etc

Malwarebytes anti-malware and hitman pro take care of most of them.

Trying this at the moment. The problem is apparantly it hides a batch file that reinstalls itself during start up. Im running a seach for it atm.

Alot of these programs that will "take care of it" dont seem to work, due to the virus saying its infected and preventing them from starting. Some work in safe mode however.

Think ive got rid (touch wood).
In safe mode i found out where the exe was (from the start menu shortcut it had created), and found out it was just a series of random numbers. Looked in msconfig under start up and found refrences to the same random number, removed these. Looked in regedit for the number, found and removed. Then scanned the computer for the number, found a batch file hidden away, deleted this and rebooted.
So far so good. Running malwarebytes atm.

That was the first link i tried. Didnt work. The "security tool" wouldnt let me run the *.com file at the start. It wouldnt even run in the back ground whilst ignoring the pop up message as it says it does.

Ahh OK. I can't remember if it said on that site to boot into safe mode or not, but I do this as a matter of course when removing any malware or other nasties as they can't in theory run in safe mode.

Depends what it's attached to and how it's starting up.
