Anyone do it or done it?? Looking to get myself a 4x4 for a bit of fun over winter, there a few off road tracks near me so would hopefully would be using those from time to time.

So what I'm wondering is what's the best 4x4 to go for really, don't really want to spend anymore than £1500. Ideally a big enough boot to chuck dog in.

Cheers chaps

Frontera, £1500 will get you one easily, a grand will get you one easily including tyres and a lift, Sjs are awful on the road (driven a couple) and a none rotten one is rare, vitaras are good off road but same as the sj they rot not quite as bad due to being newer, are a bit better on the road too.

We had an SJ when we went on Fraser Island in Australia.

It was surprisingly capable until the 4 wheel drive broke and we got stuck on the beach

My jimmny got stuck on the beach this year too in greece

I use to have a vitara. Cost 350 quid, spend 200 quid on tyres and 80 on a 2 inch lift and it went everywhere (its been all over the country, in snow in the derbyshire hills to mud in the yorkshire moors, drove all the way to plymouth etc) and never put a foot wrong.

It went green laning, pay and play days, commute to work etc as was awesome. Dont know why i sold it

Thats a jimny not an sj, jimnys are good off road too basically a new version of the sj, got a lot of mates into offroading with quite a big variety of 4x4s.

All those pics on a greenlaning trip (stanage edge).

Standard jimny had to get a group of us to lift it over some rocks
