I've been meaning to do a few little niggly jobs to the car since I got it and finally got round to it the other day. Up for renewal were my smashed angel eyes and a header tank with a broken return pipe on it and up for a bit of paint were an augergine-purple spark plug cover and my chrome slatted grille. It's worth noting at this point that the only painting I've ever done was my bedroom wall when I was 5, never used the whole primer - paint - laquer sequence.

Pics will do most of the talking, they're taken off a mobile though so sorry for quality. And a big thanks to Mike (aka Neo) for sorting these bastarding things out

Before pic, taken with old engine in while getting new one fitted

First things first - lights, header tank and grille removed

Old shitey parts

New(ish) shiney parts

And the weapons of choice for the grille to get rid of the chrome, even though davieslim loves it so much

All rubbed down

1st and 2nd coats of primer respectively

1st coat of paint

2nd coat of paint + laquered, ready to be fitted

All finished and put back together, total time taken 2 days

The paint came out much better than I expected - I thought it would be dead orange peely and easily flake, I've heard so much about how rattle cans aren't any good. I'm not saying it's of the same standards a bodyshop would manage but it's definetely better than chrome it's not an exact colour match due to the fact that the bumper's a bit faded but it's only noticable if you're inspecting it, I just like the fact that the front end's been totally changed. The header tank helps tidy up the engine bay as well so all's good there, definetely a success.

I'm happy with the grille, was going to do it anthracite but fancied something different. I don't mind if people don't like it, it's not permanent hopefully anyway. And the bottom grille is bonded in and is a right mess, the car's not for show so that can stay since it's not bugging me.

I can't believe the difference in light from the standards, I always thought the angel eyes did pretty well at lighting the road up but they were like candles in jars compared to these.

The angel eye lights must of been total wank if your saying the standards are better for light.

The angel eyes were projectors and as said, I thought they were pretty decent but I can see a good 50-75yds more with the main beam on standards compared to them. I need to wire some sidelight plugs onto in since they've been cut for the halos and leds, fit a new shaft then it's ready for MOT.

I replaced two broken parts and painted two parts, they were small things but not really odd things, besides a 'normal' debadged grille can gtf. Next you'll b telling me to get a GSi kit and speedlines...

As said I'm not bothered what people say about it, was just looking to see peoples' opinions on it. Even when I was doing the grille I wasn't sure but when I saw it on I liked it.
