im trying to loose some weight out of my mx5..
1080kg with 130bhp as standard.
not sure how to put this but was wondering how much bhp you gain (in theory) to every kg you loose?
im going to try and get it under a tonne and up the power by 10bhp (decat/filter etc)

Current bhp/ton is 120
You need to lose 5kg to 'gain' your first bhp, after that, it's slightly less kg to find another bhp.
Get it set up on a rolling road, it will have lost a few of the bhp over the years and someone who knows what they're doing will find some of that back, which will work better than an exhaust and filter.
You're aiming for 140bhp/ton, 2 ways to do that, either need to get 151bhp or get the weight down to 930kg
Or meet in the middle like you say

cheers robin, i know what you mean, not sure whats on them to 'setup' though but i know it benefited from a full service (picks up a lot better now)
not sure what to remove off it, dont want to go all out track look inside, want to keep some comfort but loose what i can..
spare wheel, jack and carbon canister have gone, also i dont have AC or electric windows (so that saves me a little)

Depends on many things, if you want to keep it looking fairly standard you could still find some weight in the sound-proofing and not notice that if you put the trim back in around it.
Depending on budget you could swap stuff for lighter parts, ie. seats/panels.
Problem is, you won't get much unless you don't mind noticing.

I changed my seats. From standard sport seats to some lightweight omp ones. Il felt a Lil bit quicker. Just like striping out the interior. May be a illusion tho lol

ive saved quite a few kg's in my 172
ive taken the sound deadner out and removed the A/C, spare wheel, jack box, wiper and motor (put a grommet in the window) and a decat back straight through exhaust system, so ive lost the weight of the middle boxes and the twin cats.
i'd say ive saved around 40kg maybe 45kg with all of the above.
I could go as far as putting the cup pack cloth interior in aswel but i still want comfort, ive just lost all the weight which no one will notice looking at the car.
Im probably just under a tonne, 995kg's or something. which im happy with considering ive got 185'ish bhp

I dont for 1 minute believe thats what a MK4 Golf weighs.Maybe full with passengers and a boot full yes,but the "kerb" weight,no chance.
