Just had to pay fine for can not being taxed even though previous owner had sorned it

The DVLA said even though the previous owner had just sorned it because I was the new owner I had to sorn it as well. Maybe I was just being stupid not knowing this but

when i went to tax the escort something about it not being sorn was mentioned as i had no reminder form, i think the last owner didn't sorn it.

hopefully they get a fine and not me
