Got back to my car yesterday in the Audi car park at OT and someone had left a note under my wiper saying they have "S3 MWG" on retention if I'm interested. £450. Currently have "H8 MWG" which I quite like though. Don't have an S3 but still tempted to get it as it doesn't seem a bad price.

Part of me is wondering if it might be a con though and how I would go about getting the number without him doing a runner with my money

Been looking to see if I can afford an S3 now to put it on

offer him less, as its very dificult for him to sell that plate as its very unique to someone with MWG, its not as if it spells a name.

that's about the going rate for a 5 digit ''normal'' personalised plate imo.

i want B6 YGD and B6 YGG and both are around that price.

Arrange to see the retention certificate then offer him £200. Put the extra towards the right car to put it on.

Yeah I had a look on DVLA etc. and it seems about right price wise although if its on retention already there is no transfer fee to add on either. Do you have to add £80 transfer fee on to the ones that the DVLA have?

Another problem is I want to keep the plate I have at the moment too for the future but it'll cost me £110 a year or whatever it is to keep it on retention, confused really as to what to do But yeah if I go for it I will offer less

thing is I like it cos everyone hates me

everyone knows that plate and knows its my car which is good and bad sometimes depending on the situation I want to keep it for when I have 2 cars at some point in the future, worth more to me than it will be to sell I imagine.

Yep, if you was to buy off this other fella he'd send the retention cert off to be put in your name which costs £25, there's no transfer fee, it only costs to take it off a car

If they're listed on the DVLA site they have fees already included.

If its already on retention you won't need to pay £105 this time, only the £25 to change the cert in to your name.

If you don't assign it, you'll need another £105 per year.

I paid £250 for my 5 character plate, but that was years ago!

Like ian says, offer him less, he won't be able to sell that in a hurry anyway.

As for fees, i think its £25 a year to retain the plate on certificate not £110

and its its on retention i think its £25 to transfer ownership.

Yeah I checked, that £105 per year sounds expensive, might just be £25 to renew it.

I read on a site its £105 for 1 year, £130 for 2 years and £155 for 3 years, not sure if you have to do the block payment or not, but £105 per year is too expensive, there would be no point in retaining a registration

cheers all for the help. Going to mull it over for a day or 2.

Would you be concerned about dealing with this random guy? Is there any way I could end up being ripped off?

Not unless he says put the money into his nigerian bank account.

Meet up with him, see the paperwork, give him the money if its correct, and simple as that

Yeah its not that I want to pretend mine is an S3, I just like that plate and it happens that you can get an S3 version of my car seen a few cars that aren't even Audi's with S3 plates on and I don't immediately think thats a bit daft, its not an S3 etc. as its obvious they have done it for the initials at the end. People would think I've done it to pretend mine is an S3 though

Found the car I want to put it on Audi S3

Seems a bit of an excessive way to justify getting that plate though

possibly this is why I need to take a step back and think about it for a day or 2 instead of rushing in and doing something stupid nice car though isn't it special order colour, about 1.5k extra. I should have at least a couple of k equity in my car.

My train of thought kind of went like this: Found the note on my car last night, thought thats not bad but I don't have an S3, maybe I should buy an S3, now looking at S3's and wondering if I can afford one

3CM is going to love this thread
