Planning one for the winter.
Pros and cons?
Which versions to stay away from?
Would be after a SWB ideally diesel.
Cheers

2.4 diesels are apparently crap and the 3.1 or 3.0 diesels are the best.

iirc 2.8 was the biggest diesel,
It was in the old models and is an Isuzu lump.

same looking at discos and shoguns/pajeros too, discos are utterly unreliable my dad used to have one and it was SHIT totally SHIT something new broke everyday nearly.
Pajeros/shoguns are reliable as hell.

fuck got mixed up with isuzu troopers , was looking at them too, I still don't know if I will bother with a 4x4 as I could just get some crap wheels and stick on some cheap rally mud/gravel tyres on.

Are you taking your car off roading or is this just to drive about in normal scottish weather with a standard car?

2.8s are the best engine to get, bit more expensive but they are still cheap,
2.0 petrols are slow and pretty bad on petrol but reliable and will do high mileage easily.
The 3.2 v6 is the the fastest but rare in SWB.
If you fancy a suspension lift, the front is just two bolts two adjust (torsion bar) and for the rear if you get a coilspring one you can use defender/disco lift springs.

putting pre-load on a torsion beam isn't the best idea for handling.

For when it snows heavily, just swap the 2 back tyres.

Its a two tonne 4x4, handling doesnt come into it, anyway getting a front wheel up in the air is fun

2.8 TD SWB is the best.. Only the early ones came like this though.
Personally I'd get an early one (with the drop tail gate) they look better and are easier to lift.
I loved my first one Had it in 2002/3

Was it genuine? Awesome cars if so, why did you get rid? They fetch a small fortune now.
