I've never seen the point, I expect an equivalent car if I crash, not a brand new one.

Sorry, forgot to reply. That is from personal experience. Not experience of claiming as thankfully I haven't ever crashed a car, but I do have my GAP cover with them.

The benefits of it are very good for what is essentially very little outlay.

Write it off after two and half years and get all your money back, sounds like a pretty big benefit to me! Personally id buy it from the dealer

I've got it on the Alfa, for an extra £100 a year for 3 years I get the value of the car back, even though it's not worth that anymore? Sounds pretty damn good to me!

Ive had it, worked well for me. Cost £300 and when i was involved in an accident the insurance payed out 3k less that the purchase price, gap paid the rest.

It wasnt easy though, they tried everything to get out of making up the full 3k, it took a year for me to get it.

edit - paid cash for it, no finance.

Thanks guys, will be paying cash for the car (private loan, not finance)

Definitely want it, as you kind of need it when buying brand new. The second you drive it away its worth less that the amount you owe.

Will see if Vauxhall will budge on it, if not il get it online i think.

Adam_B - who did you take yours out with mate? why was it such a ballache to claim? i thought its pretty clear - the Gap insurance pays the gap between insurers payout and invoice price of the car.

Thanks again

how did they try and get out of it? surely if its a service you've paid for, a service infact with not many variables to actually argue the toss about, then surely its a cut and dry pay up

not sure what exactly there is to argue
