It won't make any difference to doing insurance quotes - will still show the car down as the original engine.
Can only ring up to get a true quote.

the insurance database is different, such as impreza wrx imports sometimes come up at 1.6 or 2.0 sports, you need to ring for a accurate quote

If you declare it and get the details on the logbook it is legal in that respect and shows as a 2.0 (or 1998cc) but insurance company databases won't automatically see it as a 2.0.
When you ring up they'll basically quote you for the car the engines come out of to start with + any further mods.
I had all this when I declared the Sprout XE so do know what I'm banging on about to a certain extent

No, you ring up an insurance co and say you're looking at doing the conversion give them a plate of a car thats the same as the donor car (or the plate of the car it came from) and do it that way.
Putting the reg plate of a Calibra / Cav etc into an insurance co's online system still won't give you an accurate quote.

I just rang up and said i have a corsa, and io've fitted a 2.0 16v.
They said what car is it out of, and i said astra gsi, then that was it, didnt ask for reg or anything.

Adrian flux would be your best bet imo, since i changed to them its cheaper to insure it as the XE with them than it was to insure it as the 1.6 with admiral!

When i had mine done i was insured through Flux. They ran the quote off the donor car. They arent stupid though so you need to tell them about brake and suspension upgrades as its essential to the conversion.
Didnt have to give engine numbers though, just had to fill out the form with the type of suspension and brakes etc and they didnt add anything to the final price.
