e.g Car Phone Warehouse / Phones 4 u?

I ask as I want a BB Torch and the only way of getting the handset for free and on a contract less than £40 p/m seems to be to go with a contract via Phones 4 u or Car Phone Warehouse.

So what's the pro's and con's over taking a contract out directly with the network provider? Anything in particular I should be aware of?

Or more so, can anybody hook me up with a BB Torch?!

Cheers
Rich

Never had any problems Rich, had my n95 through CPW a few years back, and had my iphone through phones4u. A lot of the handsets (or at least used to) come unlocked through CPW.

In my experience those £xxx off your bill deals through CPW etc. are a nightmare as you have to remember to post your bill or some shit like that to get your rebate.

No idea what they'd be like on just "normal" contracts though.

never taken any fancy deals out through them, I've just remembered cpw did give me something like £30 towards accessories.

It isn't hugely clear if there's any hidden ties that's the problem!

For example:

Carphone Warehouse Orange Contract:

£35 p/m, 24 month contract, 600 minutes p/m, Unlimited texts, Unlimited internet, Free handset.

Orange direct:

£32.50 p/m "Panther 35" contract, 24 months, 600 minutes p/m, Unlimited texts, £99.99 handset

I'm currently with T-Mobile, but apparently the Torch won't be out till Christmas with them, and I've had enough of paying for Voicemail as that costs me quite a bit a month!

Vodafone were the only other place I could get the handset for free for £40 p/m but their 3G coverage in a lot of the areas I work in is rubbish.

There's no hidden ties, I got my last contract from some random place on the internet because it was cheapest.

I recent;y got my new handset from Phones4u. I had 10months left of my Orange contract, they gave me the monies to pay that off, (£300 cash in hand) and I got a brand new phone, £30 p/m unlimited texts & internet and 600mins.

No hidden ties Rich. I was worried about this when I got my N8 through NokiaDirect.co.uk.

I just log in to O2 as normal to check my account - any operator/tariff queries you go through them. If however you have issues with the phone, or need to claim on insurance, you go through CPW/P4U etc.

Otherwise it's completely normal. Only thing to consider is the 'customer service' should you have issues with the phone.

P.S. free voicemail on O2.

Me and my family have bought 6 or so phones through mobilephonesdirect and the only issue is with my brothers and somewhere long the line the free entitlements offered by them were not passed to Orange and despite several phonecalls and emails from orange and the mobsdirect still take between £80 and £130 a month off my mum but that's part orange to blame

I got my phone through CPW, only downside I've seen is when I needed to change my tariff, I couldn't have the exact tariff I saw on o2's website because I didn't originally buy through them so the online deals didn't apply to me. I still got the minutes and texts I needed but didn't get the unlimited free internet, I would've had to pay another fiver a month for that

Oops, cancel what I said lol.

Rang T-Mobile to get my PAC code, got put through to a guy who wanted to just keep asking customer satisfaction questions. Got a bit pushy and asked him to just give me the code as they couldn't give me the phone I wanted or give me free voicemail which to me is important.

Ended up agreeing on a deal of:

BB Torch when it comes to T-Mobile within next 3 weeks
600 mins
Unlimited texts
Unlimited Internet & BB Services
FREE Voicemail
£30 p/m!

And £10 gesture of goodwill credit on my current account

Will be ringing him again if I've not got my new phone in 3 weeks!

O2 couldn't even get close to a deal like that on the N8. I'm certain they don't want to support Nokia any more

I was quite surprised I got it to that tbh as up until then the best deal was that for £35 p/m anywhere else

I guess being with T-Mobile for the past 5 years has helped after all!

Not that it matters now but your upgrade is with the operator come end of contract, not the 3rd party. I was worried about that in case I didn't want just a Nokia.
