What are peoples thoughts on this?
Advantages/Disadvantages?
Much effort to do?
Have you done it? If so why?
I've been thinking about doing it for a while, as its a fucker to get to the battery tray, say if I'm trying to jump start another car or just in general. So few hints and tips would be helpful please.

What are peoples thoughts on this? Its like a battery in the boot.
Advantages/Disadvantages? less weigh up front/ putting a cable through the car and wiring up the connector blocks (easy).
Much effort to do? Not really.
Have you done it? If so why? yes, to get less weight off the front and more at the back.

For;
-weight distribution
-free up space in engine bay
Against;
-loose space in boot
-can be harder to jump from

You can get problems with bad earths too, aswell as obv your running some fat cable to the front, which can be a pain to route

Earth the battery - terminal in the boot and run a + wire to the engine bay, rip off + battery connector in engine bay, connect to + wire that runs to the boot, connect the - wires in the engine bay to an earth in the engine bay, easy as hell.

With an inline fuse as close to the battery as possible

reason i moved mine was to fit a saxo pas pump on the battery tray. if i didnt have to move it, i wouldnt have bothered.

A fuse that can not blow with the power drawn from cranking, isnt worth having surely, and bmw and other cars that have them in the boot as standard dont run inline fuses do they?

Alot of cars use the Mega-fuses like this:
They do silly big ratings which are fine for cranking and only blow when there is a straight short circuit.

If, for some reason, the is a short between your main cable run (from battery up to the engine bay), and the chassis, there is nothing to interupt that current (like a fuse would). Could result in a fire.
Edit: Ive worded that really badly

Don't think mine has a fuse either, don't see why there would ever be a short anyway, unless for some reason over the years the insulation rubbed off some how, which is impossible as its not free to move about.

I think your referring to what i said. I didn't put it out right, I mean earths in the boot can be a problem as usually the metal is piss thin and there aren't any captive nuts to use and get a nice good solid earth.
And as davey said, there are usually fuses like that, Some cars have them in fuseboxes at the back.
Also, wiring can move about, The corrugated plastic stuff can eat into the wiring (Renault did a recall for just this!) Also i worked on something else (Cant remember what now :rolleyes that the wiring that ran over the top of the engine had been ripped apart by the corrugated plastic.

there are a lot of things that can cause a fire though. its no different to a battery cable in an engine bay rubbing through, and on a corsa thats not fused as std.
