Yo bumbaclots.
Our scheme starts again in December and I'm going to get amongst it like cheese on bread.
Bloke at work has told me how it works, basically they give me vouchers and then take the money out of my salary but I won't pay tax on it.
So do I have to go and find a bike first and tell them how many vouchers I need? I want a Carrera.

Yes, apart from the fact I could only ride it at midnight in certain parts of Tilehurst
That bike was awesome though, £1800 bike with another £1000 worth of stuff on it

find the retailer thats in the scheme and they will give you a quote on the correct form.
then you fill the details off the form in on the scheme website
few days later you get a voucher through and you pay the retailer with that
its a quality scheme imo. massive savings to be had

You'd have to have a twat of a boss to enforce it. I've had mine over a year now and cycled to work on it twice

I might use it for work if it snows again, but I work 7 miles away and I'm not Lance Armstrong.

Right. First you need to find out what scheme your employers will be using, as there are several companies who do the cycle scheme. Then from there you'll know which shops are in partnership with that particular scheme. Then you go to the shop, pick a bike, they'll give you a written quotation, and with my scheme we filled in an online form which the HR person at work set up. They get your request, liase with your employer and the shop, and then a few weeks later you get a voucher for the amount you requested as per your quotation. The voucher is as good as cash. Then you ring the bike shop, arrange a time to get the bike, go down there, swap the voucher for the bike, and job done.

I spoke to laddy here and he said Halfords are in our scheme, if I go into Halfords later and say my employer is part of the Cycle to Work scheme and that I want a written quote will that be ok?
I'm just getting ready for when it starts next month.
