Got 3 points and a £60 fine tonight. Here's the story...
I turned left from Bon Accord Street onto Langstane Place and pulled up on the left hand side at the point I thought would be the least inconvenient. As far away from the crossing as possible while not obstructing the entrance/exit a little further down the road from the Prohibition Bar on Langstane Place.
I had arranged to meet my dad near there and the only reason I stopped was to send a text message to my dad to tell him I was outside.
As I was texting, two police officers walked round the corner. As soon as they brought the problem of where I was stopped to my attention I explained my reason for stopping. I also apologised, and offered to move the vehicle right away.
However regardless of the fact this spot was an unsafe place to stop (in their eyes), they proceeded to talk to me, do various checks and take my details. This resulted in the car sitting on that spot for a further 10-15 minutes. In my opinion, this was a poor judgment on their behalf.
Initially my dad said he'd pay the fine, but now we've decided to take it to court because it'll cost them a lot more than £60 to pursue the case.
I know technically I was in the wrong, but surely they could have just let me move on.

You get points every single time you get caught on zig zags, no exceptions, does everybody not know this?

he shouldnt have stopped there i agree, but for the copper to then keep him there for another 10 minutes kinda contradicts what the copper is going to do you for. i'd go to court too, but there is a parking bay at the end of the zig zags, you should have stopped there, providing there was no car in it already!

I understand that, but I thought a little discretion would have been appropriate in this case.
As I said, I offered to move the car immediately, but because they wanted to deal with the matter then, the car remained in that spot for a further 10-15 mins.
If it really is an inappropriate place to stop surely they would have been keen on the car being moved sooner rather than later.

I never noticed I was still on the zig-zags and I wasn't aware it was a penalty worth 3 points and £60

Coppers aren't the smartest tools in the shed, Zig Zags are a fair one, especially when everyone should know not to stop on them in any circumstances.

unfortunately zigzags = 3 points... you will not win or even look clever in court.

Certainly not trying to look clever. Just hoping to argue my case and see what happens.
Hopefully they'll trade the 3 points for a bigger fine.

they are more interested in banning people who dont know the rules of the road than giving them fines. which is fair enough. if someone cant drive but has loads of money, why should they get off with it?
accept the punishment and move on.

I'd say they're more interested in collecting cash than dishing out points in a minor matter like this.
I'm looking to get a job as a delivery driver, but these points may hinder the process. If i'm forced to sign on and take money from the government instead of earning my own cash and paying tax, then fair doos.

You have no case, stopping on zig-zags is points.
The fact he kept you there is just a logistical aspect of him administering the points. You will lose.

I was under the impression they were advisory, not mandatory.

Maybe so, but i'm not gonna go without a fight

Personally I wouldn't take it to court. you were parked illegally on zigzag lines
I would have took the fine and points and not done it again!

If you do actually take this to court they'll probably throw costs on top of the fine at best, whilst still giving you points, as well as wasting everyone's time.

You cannot be charged extra for court costs in Scotland.

I've been let off with stopping on zig zags before A lovely police man of Asian persuasion told me to kindly move along 5 feet to a safe stopping spot.
This has no relevance to this thread other than gloating tbh.
