What's the deal with this? Can you only take a 12 month contract out with Sky, e.g. if I only get a 6 month let i'll be unable to get sky?

Course you can. It just means when you move you still havea sky contract. It just follows you whereever you are.
If you moved out and went to live with your parrents say and didnt have Sky installed you would still have to pay monthly for it iirc

Its a pain in the tits if you are renting but not sure how long for. Ive just been living with free view so far but really missing sky, but dont want tied into a years contract as I dont know exactly what my plans are in the next year.

Not been an issue for me. Got it in the old place, lived there for 2-3 years, moved into the new place and just changed my address. Job done.

Still worth checking, our old landlords didnt mind us putting a dish up but it was in the contract it had to stay if it was put up.
Also when you move address, usually Sky will request you start a new 12 month deal, so if you are hopping from property to property be aware of that (this is the same for all utility providers such as phonelines and internet, and some arent as open to you simply moving house as others, they like to charge you 'admin' fees).
Sky is a waste of money anyway, buy a Freeview recorder

If you can only see yourself spending 6 months there then I wouldn't bother but if its not a short term thing then I don't see the problem, got sky in my flat when I moved in about 18 months ago.
