Hey...
Does anyone on here have it? What do you think of it?
They are always posting stuff through our door but I finally read the info today. At the moment we have our phone line with BT and broadband with O2. For the same price we could be with Virgin and have some more TV channels.
I've got to have a look at the small print etc but was just after some opinions.

My mate has cable and broadband. Exchange is at the end of his street so bb is super fast. His digital cable suffers the same picture interference that Sky does.

Internet (cable) is amazing - FTTC (cab is directly outside) so always get full 20Mb as long as I don't go ove the limits (10am-3pm, 4pm-9pm). If I download a lot, I do it over night.
If you're not in a cable area then the broadband will be just as bad as any other provider.

We have it. The best thing about it is the On Demand services, i.e. 4oD, iPlayer, ITV Net Player and the Five one too.
Other than that it's pretty shit as there is cock all on the other channels.
If I moved into my own place I wouldn't be more loyal towards them and would probably stick with a Freview+ Box and O2 broadband.

I was with them about a year ago, i had phone and broadband. had it about 4 months, then the net went off, rang them up and they said i never had the internet on my account :S even though they send me a router and and engineer came out and connected it, and i was paying for it and using it! so they wanted to charge me more to add it to my account even though i was already paying for it! and they reckoned that i never payed it, even though i had bank statements to prove
so i cancelled and went to sky!

I switched to virgin for phone and bb last year. Miles better than bt's piss poor speeds and quality. Can't vouch for the tv stuff though as I stayed with sky.

We've found at home that they're bastards for ringing us up, offering something for a free trial, then charging for it after a few months.
For example, we used to be on 2MB broadband (few years back this is) and they offered a free trial of 10MB which mum accepted. Then she tried to downgrade back to 2MB but they wouldn't let her, meaning she had no choice but to pay for it 
Had similar things with TV and phone 'offers' but never taken them up on it as we know what they'll do.

With the recent upload speed increases, they've started to traffic shape P2P/Usenet during those times - so even if you're under the traffic management limits you're still getting shafted for speed ie: newgroups i get around 10-50kb/s, P2P around 100-200kb/s where as i used to be able to max out my 20mb (1.9mb/s etc).

I have V+ HD with virgin in my room and have every channel, always something on or series/films to record. And i much prefer the menu layout/navigation of virgin in comparison to sky.

Just goes to show how different people like different things. I find the Virgin interface like something from the 1990's and very slow lol
Will be interesting to see what the new Tivo interface they are just about to release will be like

With the recent upload speed increases, they've started to traffic shape P2P/Usenet during those times - so even if you're under the traffic management limits you're still getting shafted for speed ie: newgroups i get around 10-50kb/s, P2P around 100-200kb/s where as i used to be able to max out my 20mb (1.9mb/s etc).
The picture shows sabnzbd (usenet client) almost maxing my connection during the active hours of the traffic management hours

If I had access to cable I would snap it up - I cant stand shitty ADSL broadband.
Couple of people I knowhave the cable broadband and have been pleased with the speed of it and the TV service, if the menu systems are a bit 90's and slow.
I dont have personal experience but are Virgin Media not good for people who want to p2p?

They were great as long as you didn't go outside the traffic management soft caps during the day. But during the day now i'm, as well as a few hundred people on the VM forums, are struggling to get decent download speed on usenet or torrents (don't seem to have a problem with Rapidshare/HTTP hosts) etc. Few people have said they're having issues with iPlayer/4OD etc during these times, but i've never experienced it personally.
noshua - have you got a speedtest.net graph of your line?

Well I 'had' 50mb broadband which has been great so far but my whole line is now dead so let's see how long it takes for them to fix it. Seems like it's a whole area down so a bit of hardware no doubt

Dom, I meant more for handing over people's details to random solicitors which turn up at the door with a flaky half arsed court order for people caught downloading random porno's and shitty music tracks - they seem to not bother looking at the order and hand over as much as they can as fast as they can

Definately agree with it being slow  Just prefer the design and ease of use.

No they're appear to good in that respect, you're more likely to get a letter or email saying you've been downloading too much. But that's only going off what people are saying on forums.
Rob_Quads - Was that with the old Pace boxes? They were incredibly shite and slow. The parents had their Pace box replaced (they swapped out our Ambit modem for a Cisco jobby as well) with the Samsung box and it's miles better, easily as quick as the Sky+ boxes.

I wasn't implying that, just saying it obviously hasn't affected my speeds (astraweb, ssl, both servers).

Must be one of the lucky ones, you can see from the screen shot below (just taken now) that it's 'bursting' between 0 and 600kb/s

Hadn't noticed I'd been upgraded to 2Mb upload (roughly!) either, hadn't heard anything about it until I looked into it a minute ago.
What's the slow speeds through? Torrent? Usenet? Using SSL with any?
