Anyone know much about them? 1.9s specifically. Also GTI6 and MI16 conversions.

Long time Tom, alright? I just want to know how they compare in comparison with more modern hot hatches and the Pros and cons of the bigger engines.

One of the best hot hatches of all time, perfect track toy, If a decent turbo come up I'd replace the 106 with one in a heartbeat my mates had a few, his current one is an 8v turbo running about 220bhp, with an LSD, full cage, totally stripped, totally trac prepd, very quick car. The GTI6 and MI16 conversioned ones are quick but a waste of time if you want a really quick hot hatch, up at KH a few months ago there was one of each on TB's and one on carbs and the turbo blew them all away. Bullet proof engines and relativly cheap to buy. This white one to buy was dirt cheap, he's spent a fair bit on it recently though.

what do you want to use it for?

As a road car I think you'd feel its age.... lack of toys, comforts etc

As a cheap tracktoy they are hard to beat.

We had a near standard power 1989 1.9 GTi. It was great

OMP Cage, OMP bracing, Pug Sport GrpN exhaust, solid mounts, uprated rear beam, pads and discs etc... nothing too expensive.

Really Really regret selling it!

I'd have loved to pop an S16 engine (lighter than Mi16) in it

It's quick, 220bhp may seem a lot but in the world of 16v turbo 205's it's not, there are so many turbo 205's up here it's unreal, you regulally see 4 or 5 at KH at the same time, some of the bigger spec 16v turbos are running 350+ without issues.

Whats the S16 engine from? It would be a road and potentially track car now and then, magazine want me to have something relatively old so it can be featured now and then.

I'd go for mi16 engine lighter, with 1.6gti gearbox,

Mate had 170bhp 1.9 8v, then a 210bhp mi16

Shifted with both,
I'd love one.

The s16 model was powered by the Peugeot XU10J4 engine, a 2.0 litre 16 valve petrol unit producing either 150bhp or 155bhp as standard. Unlike it's 6-speed replacement the306 GTi6, the Peugeot 306 s16 is fitted with a BE-3/5 5 speed gearbox that will propel this 90's hot hatch to an eventual 130mph+

so... GTi-6 would prob be better
