Change the belt. For the sake of £15 u may aswell.
Lap the valves back in if u have the tools tools to do so,
Make sure you've got all the old headgasket off the block/head!
You may want to pressure test the head too.
New stem seals..

not going to skim it as i dont have time or funds realy
however i need tip ex so i put the timing back were it was
is it worth giving a few bits a clean with brake cleaner while its apart?

Don't muck about with it if it's all running fine and it's just a shitter, remember to clean up all the gasket faces with a scraper and emory cloth.
Anything that requires valve removal's a hell of a lot more work than just doing the gasket.

£20 getting the head skimmed could save you having to redo the HG a few miles down the road

Get a steel rule and a reasonably slim feeler gauge - hold the rule against the head at 90degrees to it and try to slip the feeler under it. If it goes/ you can see light through it then it's going to need skimmed.
I've just re-fitted mine yesterday, stuck a rule against it and it was perfect, couldn't even get a bit of newspaper under it.
